JNAAG Launches First "Crowd Sourced" Exhibition - Lambton Loves Art

Email icon Back to Search
Sarnia, ON –This First Friday March 7 marks the launch of a new community-based exhibition project at the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery.

Members of the public are invited to select the work that will hang in the gallery's first crowd-sourced exhibition, Lambton Loves Art. From March 7 to May 5 residents are encouraged to visit www.lambtonlovesart.ca  and vote from forty pieces of art pulled from the gallery's permanent collectio. The pieces that get the most votes will secure a spot in the exhibition.

Grouped into four categories - landscape, portraiture, abstraction and urban-scape - the public will be able to choose between works by some of Canada's most well-known artists including: Emily Carr, Joseph Hallam, William Kurelek, Lawren Harris and Tom Thomson. Visitors to the website are encouraged to vote more than once and to visit the site often as the selection will change twice a week.

The JNAAG currently houses a permanent collection of over 1,100 works that tell the continuing story of Canadian historical and contemporary art in our community.
"Lambton County has a rich history of collecting and enjoying Canadian art," says Curator Lisa Daniels. "The gallery is always looking for new, creative and fun ways to bring the community into a dynamic relationship with its incredible permanent art collection."

After voting for the art online, residents can view their choices live when Lambton Loves Art opens June 27.

Have a Mystical Experience at the Gallery this First Friday
The public is invited to stop by the JNAAG between 6:00 and 9:00 p.m. and celebrate the opening of Moonlit Mystics, a new permanent collection exhibition, and stay for a free, 10 minute intuitive reading by London-based Metaphysical Consultant Annette Sullivan.
The exhibition explores themes of dreams, spirituality, and mysticism through rarely seen artworks by artists including Louis de Niverville, Eric Atkinson, Mary Phelps, Tony Urquhart and William Ogilvie. Moonlit Mystics will be on view at the gallery from March 7 to May 11, 2014.
Admission is free but a donation of $5.00 would be greatly appreciated. For more information about these upcoming events visit www.JNAAG.ca. For more information about Lambton County, visit www.lambtononline.ca
