Metis artist, Tracey-Mae Chambers, to discuss art installation at JNAAG

Sarnia, ON – The Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery is pleased to announce its upcoming Art & Ideas lecture, In Conversation with Tracey-Mae Chambers.

Art & Ideas is a series of live discussions focused on expanding the ideas and topics found in current exhibitions or artwork from the JNAAG's permanent collection. Registration is required and can be completed through the Art & Ideas page of the JNAAG website.

Art & Ideas: In Conversation with Tracey-Mae Chambers

Tracey-Mae Chambers will join us virtually to discuss her #hopeandhealingcanada project and share details about her installation at the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery.

The #hopeandhealingcanada project, created by Métis artist Tracey-Mae Chambers, consists of a series of site-specific art installations across Canada. Each installation is temporary and meticulously created by Chambers using red yarn that is crochet, knit, and tied. While the yarn symbolically reconnects a fractured society, the red represents blood, passion, anger, courage, and love. This ongoing body of work is used to illustrate connections between Indigenous, Inuit, and Métis peoples with Canadians, while also broaching the subject of decolonization. The installation invites us to engage with the idea of connection, and how communities can move forward to heal and support one another through traumatic and life-altering events.

The Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery is open Wednesdays from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., Thursdays from 11 a.m. – 8:30 p.m., and Friday and Saturdays from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
