JNAAG hosting two in-person Art & Ideas lectures this November

Email icon Back to Search

Sarnia, ON – The Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery will be hosting two in-person Art & Ideas lectures this November. These lectures compliment the first exhibition in the Re View series, which features the historic photography of J.S. Thom (1853-1933) and peers through time at the evolution of the 1893 Thom Building to what it is today – the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery.

Art & Ideas is a series of live discussions focused on expanding the ideas and topics found in current exhibitions or artwork from JNAAG's permanent collection. Registration is required and can be completed through the Art & Ideas page of the JNAAG website.

Art & Ideas: Archiving Memories with Nicole Aszalos
Thursday, November 17 at 7:00 p.m.

Nicole Aszalos, Lambton County Archives Archivist/Supervisor, will discuss how photographs have evolved over time, including tips and tricks on how to preserve these memories for future generations. She will share information about various types of photo damage and proper storage for your photo collections.

Art & Ideas: Defining a Downtown with Jack Mallon
Thursday, November 24 at 7:00 p.m.

To further the discussion about the evolution of the historic Thom Building, heritage planner Jack Mallon brings his professional experience to discuss the 1953 tornado and its impact on Sarnia’s downtown commercial Victorian architecture and the subsequent urban renewal. Discussion will focus on how the conservation of the Thom Building façade created a building that married the Victorian and modernist styles that define downtown Sarnia.

The Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery is open Wednesdays from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. – 8:30 p.m., and Friday and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
